Ever opened up your Instagram to see the most surreal blues and experienced some massive wanderlust? If you’re one of those folks, check out the list below for some of the my favourite coastal road trips that will have you cruising past those colours, with the tunes blasting and warm air hitting your face as you speed by.
Pacific Coast Highway, USA
This is of course, at the top of my list (full road trip details here) and there’s hardly a blue that compares to the Pacific. Looping across bridges and through winding roads built on the edge, the Pacific Coast Highway is one of the world’s greatest coastal drives, and with very good reason. Stop at McWay Falls and Bixby Bridge, before looping inland for an In ‘N’ Out burger and heading back to the coast to Malibu and Santa Monica. Soak in the colours of the ocean – the scenery here is breath-taking! My favourite time of the year to do this drive is late spring / early summer – say between April and June, before the crowds really hit.
Maine – Nova Scotia, USA / Canada
You’re probably surprised, but a hidden gem that has surprisingly still remained quite undiscovered is the New England – Canada coastal road. Start in Maine and wind your way up the coast towards Canada, stopping to experience some beautiful hikes overlooking the Atlantic blues in Acadia National Park, and catching the classic lighthouse Instagram at Peggy’s Cove as you cross the border into Canada. More on the route soon, watch this space!
Great Ocean Road, Australia
Ah… one for the bucket list! Australia it seems, has the best of everything, and its unique position straddling the Pacific and Indian ocean coasts gives you your fair share of truly spectacular drives along the water. You’ve probably seen the picture perfect shot of the Twelve Apostles on most instagrammers’ pages, and yes, it never gets old.

Amalfi Coast, Italy
A not-so-classic but a tried and true favourite! Italy is hardly the place one would look to when considering the idea road trip – more so than anything else because driving in Italy itself is a well-learned skill very few of us can boast of. However, don’t let that stop you! Driving along the Amalfi coast is awe-inspiring and you’re probably going to take a lot longer than you realized because at every turn, there’s a picture to stop for. Make your way through Positano, Sorrento, Salerno, and Atrani, stopping for a day trip out to the Isle of Capri, and finish off the trip with a slice of some of Italy’s best pizza in Naples!
