You’re at the highest navigable lake in the world, so what could possibly make it better? Check into the Hotel Libertador Lago Titicaca for a plush experience with the lake at your feet and absolute R&R at your disposal. It’s on its own private mini island, with foxes and alpacas roaming the property – all completely docile, of course!
A short drive from the Puno bus terminal and about an hour away from Juliaca Airport, this beautiful property is nestled among the foliage surrounding Lago Titicaca, on its own little island connected by a short road to Puno’s mainland. Check in and take a walk through their expansive grounds, soaking in the view of the beautiful lake with Puno panoramically laid out in the background. Around dusk, relax around the hotel grounds while alpacas feed on the grass around you, serenading you as you unwind. If you’re lucky, you’ll see the beautiful foxes on the property as well – and rest assured, they’re completely domesticated!
Start your day with an incredible breakfast spread – admire the lake in the early morning hours as you tuck into their quinoa pancakes (our favourite!) and fresh fruits. Explore Lago Titicaca with the hotel’s in-house travel company with a day spent sailing on the lake and exploring the Uros and Taquile islands, each with an amazing story of their own! Close out the evening with a pisco sour on the terrace overlooking the feeding animals, and a sumptuous dinner at their local-inspired farm-to-table restaurant, and you’ve got yourself the perfect day in Puno.
The room… the view! Easily one of our favourite parts of the property, each room overlooks the vast lake, so really, why do you ever need to get out of bed? The perfect way to de-stress after a few days exploring Peru is to lounge on their sink-yourself-in beds with some room service and the serene views of the lake – everything you ever need right?
In and Around Puno
The Hotel Libertador Lago Titicaca is the complete package for anyone visiting Puno – plush rooms and a spectacular property together with their own in-house tour company for all your touristing needs.
Head on over to the Venturia tour desk and set yourself up with a day of exploring the lake and its islands. The unusual Uros Islands are less than a twenty minute boat ride from the hotel! You’ll be picked up and dropped back to the hotel, so really, you’ve got nothing to plan or worry about – take the tour that takes a full day and roam the Uros and Taquile islands, spotting the Bolivian border in the distance as you learn more about the inhabitants of one of the world’s more incredible lakes.
How To Get To Puno
The easiest way to get to Puno is by a luxury bus from Cusco, or a flight over into Juliaca Airport from Lima or Cusco.
Tales of Vagary was extremely warmly welcomed by Libertador Lago Titicaca, but as always, all opinions remain my own.
