Food The Classics U.S.A

Pizza in New York is sacrosanct, and the search for the best pizza joints in the city is not one to be scoffed at. No distance is too far for a good slice of pie. And ToV’s winners are… In no particular order because it’s a near impossible task to rank them :

          Rubirosa (SoHo, Manhattan)

A little mecca in SoHo, this one-stop-shop for brilliant Neapolitan-American (yes, they’re revolutionizing it) pizza cannot be missed. The pizzas are twice the normal size you’re used to, but completely worth the extra calories.

          Motorino (East Village, Manhattan)

This East Village gem has turned into a global movement, unsurprisingly. There will always be a wait, but you won’t regret my sending you here.

          Roberta’s (Bushwick, Brooklyn)

A favorite in Bushwick for a fun-filled vibe and brilliant pizza (the Clintons love it here too!). Whether or not you’ve made a reservation,  you WILL be waiting a while, believe me. However, they have a lovely Tiki bar attached to entertain you with some snacks, drinks and lovely Havana tunes while you wait. Order the ‘Beastmaster,’ it’s a game changer.

          Lombardi’s (SoHo, Manhattan)

There isn’t a New Yorker who doesn’t know Lombardi’s. It’s been around since 1905, and is too much of a New York institution to not throw this in here. Waits aren’t long if you’ve made a reservation, and one bite of their coal-fired specialties will explain why these guys are here to stay.

Speedy Romeo’s (Brooklyn & Lower East Side)

A couple of set-ups on Clinton Street and LES, this establishment boasts brilliant wood-fired pizza. But for those who aren’t pizza lovers (?) fear not, their Italian grub is some of the more deliciously authentic in the city.
